IAEA: Iran Does Not Provide Guarantees Regarding the Exclusively Peaceful Nature of Its Nuclear Program

немає доказів, що Іран розробляє ядерну зброю, але є підстави для «серйозної стурбованості»

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, stated on March 4 that there is currently no confirmation that Iran is working on the development of nuclear weapons. However, the Agency cannot confidently certify that Iran’s nuclear program is aimed solely at peaceful purposes.

Reasons for IAEA Concerns

According to Grossi, Iran has accumulated significant amounts of enriched uranium, the level of which is nearly sufficient for weapon development. Furthermore, the Iranian side refuses to grant IAEA inspectors full access to the country’s nuclear facilities, which heightens the concerns of the international community.

“For these reasons, my previous reports indicate that until Iran assists the IAEA in addressing significant security issues, the Agency will not be able to guarantee that Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful,” he added.

Escalation of the Situation Surrounding Iran

Recently, Israeli military forces reported carrying out a strike on the secret nuclear facility “Minzadeh,” located near Tehran. According to the press service of the Israel Defense Forces, a group of Iranian scientists was allegedly working on developing a crucial component for nuclear weapons in an underground center.

Since February 28, Israel and the United States have been conducting strikes on military and nuclear sites in Iran, as well as on government institutions. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the primary goal of this operation is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. In response, Iran began attacking Israeli territory and countries in the Middle East where American military bases are located.
