The Kremlin is considering options for concessions to US President Donald Trump, including the possibility of declaring an air truce with Ukraine. Such a move could be an attempt by the Russian Federation to avoid harsh secondary sanctions from Washington.

Diplomatic Negotiations and Trump’s Role
It is known that this week, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will arrive in Moscow. The visit of the American diplomat is seen as a last chance to reach an agreement with the Trump administration. According to sources familiar with the situation, the likelihood of reaching an agreement is assessed as low; however, Russia is looking for an opportunity to demonstrate flexibility.
Among the possible proposals is a temporary halt to airstrikes, including the use of drones and missiles, provided that Ukraine also agrees to similar de-escalation measures. Such an initiative could signal a willingness to compromise in order to prevent further pressure from the US.
US’s Stern Warnings and Demands
US President Donald Trump stated that falling oil prices would negatively impact the funding of the Russian military machine, which relies on oil revenues. Additionally, he announced plans to significantly increase tariffs on imports from India—one of the largest buyers of Russian oil—within the next 24 hours. According to Trump, these measures are aimed at increasing economic pressure on Moscow.
On July 29, Donald Trump set a clear deadline for the Russian Federation to make progress in ending the war against Ukraine—”10 days from today.” If these demands are not met, the US administration will impose new tariffs and other restrictive measures. Earlier, Trump also expressed his frustration with Vladimir Putin’s actions.
The Kremlin stated that they have “taken into account” the statement from US President Donald Trump. At the same time, Russian President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the “special military operation,” as the war against Ukraine is called in Russia, continues.
It is known that Russia has already declared a truce twice in the spring; however, according to the Ukrainian side, these agreements were not fulfilled. The situation remains tense, and further decisions from the Kremlin will depend on the course of negotiations and the US response.
