The Cassation Economic Court as part of the Supreme Court has made a final decision regarding the plots of land located around the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine in the village of Pyrohiv. The court has prohibited any construction on the territory that has the status of a protected zone of the museum.

Decisive Role of the Supreme Court

The court’s final decision has ensured the preservation of unique cultural heritage. The panel of judges, led by Serhiy Mohyla, examined the case regarding the legality of construction on the lands adjacent to the museum. As a result, the court annulled the decision of the appellate instance that allowed construction and reinstated the rights of the Agricultural Production Cooperative “Khotivskyi Agro-Combine” concerning the use of this territory.

“The higher court annulled the decision of the appellate court that reinstated the rights of the Agricultural Production Cooperative ‘Khotivskyi Agro-Combine’, particularly regarding the construction on this territory. The decision is not subject to appeal,” wrote Dmytro Perov.

Significance of the Decision for Cultural Heritage Protection

The prohibition on construction on the protected lands around the museum in Pyrohiv is of great importance for preserving the historical and cultural environment. The National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine is one of the most significant cultural sites in the country, and the court’s decision will help protect its territory from any attempts to change the land’s designated purpose. From now on, the lands around the museum will remain untouched and will be under state protection.
