Kyiv City Council Demands Resignation of Secretary Bondarenko Due to Suspension

Депутати Київради зібрали підписи, щоб домогтися відставки Бондаренка, – Андрій Вітренко

The “Servant of the People” faction in the Kyiv City Council has gathered enough signatures to initiate a demand for the resignation of Secretary Volodymyr Bondarenko. This information was reported by the head of the faction and the budget committee of the Kyiv City Council, Andrii Vitrenko, during a broadcast of the project.

Issues with the Regulations

Vitrenko noted that the statement regarding the temporary suspension, submitted by Bondarenko and signed by Mayor Vitalii Klitschko, contains violations of the Kyiv City Council’s regulations. He emphasized that the legislation does not provide for a suspension procedure, only for appointments and dismissals. “In the regulations of the Kyiv City Council, in all laws – and we have thoroughly studied this issue – there are only appointments and dismissals,” he said.

“Only an investigating judge can suspend someone from their position during a criminal investigation,” Vitrenko added.

Further Actions

The deputy also outlined three possible options for resolving the situation: Bondarenko can voluntarily submit a resignation letter, Mayor Klitschko can bring this issue before the deputies, or one-third of the deputies can initiate consideration of this matter. In the case of the latter option, the mayor is obliged to put the issue to a vote.

“The votes to sign this demand are already there,” he noted, emphasizing the deputies’ readiness for active action in this matter.
