Kyiv City Council Meeting Postponed Due to Lack of Quorum: New Date – June 10

Сесію Київради зірвано: депутати не змогли зібратися у залі

The plenary meeting of the Kyiv City Council, which has been ongoing since early April, has been postponed due to the inability to gather a quorum. According to the results of a preliminary vote, only 53 deputies were present in the hall, which is insufficient for a full meeting.

Reasons for the Disruption of the Kyiv City Council Meeting

The mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, stated that there are obstacles created by central authorities for the deputies of the Kyiv City Council. Klitschko emphasized that some elected officials are being prevented from participating in the session due to summonses for questioning, searches, and pressure through the opening of criminal cases. Additionally, he noted the information pressure from media and Telegram channels controlled by the central authorities.

“Some deputies are hindered from attending meetings – whether it’s questioning or searches. Others are intimidated by fabricated criminal cases. We see constant manipulation and lies being spread on Telegram channels and in media controlled by the central authorities,” he said from the podium of the Kyiv City Council.

What Issues Remain Unresolved

During the session, deputies were to consider important issues for the city, including amendments to the capital’s budget. In particular, it was planned to adopt a decision regarding the funding of protective structures and the development of the metro towards Vynogradar. Due to the postponement of the meeting, the adoption of these decisions is delayed at least until June 10, when, according to the preliminary plan, the next plenary meeting of the Kyiv City Council is scheduled to take place.
