In Kyiv, the police arrested a 44-year-old driver of a Mercedes vehicle for the second time, who recently inflicted serious bodily harm on a cyclist on Mezhyhirskaya Street in the Podil district after a remark about his behavior on the road. After the attack, the assailant left the victim unconscious and fled the scene of the incident.
The driver’s actions have been classified under another article
Law enforcement officials have additionally classified the actions of the suspect under Part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — leaving a person in danger, resulting in serious consequences. This means that the suspect is facing another charge under this article.
“The police have arrested the Mercedes driver who brutally beat the cyclist – he will be informed of another charge,” the statement reads.
The preventive measure may change due to new circumstances
Previously, the assailant had already been charged under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code — intentional serious bodily harm, dangerous to life during the infliction. At that time, the prosecution requested that the suspect be held in custody, but the court released him under house arrest. However, in light of new circumstances in the case, the police will again petition for the detained individual to be held in custody during the pre-trial investigation.
