The National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have signed a memorandum on strategic partnership and cooperation. The document confirms the parties’ intentions to combine research and practical potential for a deeper analysis of social and state processes in the Russian Federation.

Uniting the Efforts of Scholars and Military

The official signing of the memorandum took place with the participation of Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and Serhiy Kvit, president of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The main goal of this initiative is to combine the practical experience of military intelligence with the academic expertise of the university for a deeper study of the common enemy—Russia.

It is anticipated that within the framework of the Russian Studies program at the Department of International Relations of NaUKMA, supported by the School of Political Analysis, joint research on Russian society, state institutions, propaganda methods, and the peculiarities of the enemy’s mindset will be organized. Such a partnership will allow for a more systematic and professional study of processes in the Russian Federation.

“To defeat the enemy, one must understand how they think and act. We are ready to share our unique experience with the Mohyla community. Science and intelligence will work together to strengthen the country’s defense potential,” explained Kyrylo Budanov, emphasizing the necessity of cooperation with scholars.

Educational Programs for Future Specialists

The memorandum provides for joint research, educational events, and knowledge exchange. This collaboration will help prepare a new generation of specialists who will have a deep understanding of the enemy and be capable of countering its influence in all areas of the country’s life.

President of NaUKMA Serhiy Kvit noted that the certificate program “Russian Studies” has been created specifically for a comprehensive study of Russia as a source of threats, and the partnership with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine will make this research more structured and effective.
