Preparations are underway in Kyiv for the major repair of an important transport artery — Heroes of Mariupol Street. The municipal corporation “Kyivavtodor” has begun searching for a contractor to carry out the work, which will cover not only the street itself but also the roundabout at the intersection with Dokiya Humenna Street.

Reasons for the Need for Repairs

According to information from road workers, Heroes of Mariupol Street is a major road of city significance. Its last reconstruction took place back in 1984, and since then the road surface has significantly deteriorated. Among the main issues are numerous cracks, ruts, and damage to the stormwater drainage system, which has caused part of the road surface to sink.

“Currently, there are cracks and ruts on the roadway. There is also damage to the stormwater drainage system, which has led to the sinking of the road surface,” complained representatives from “Kyivavtodor.”

Modern Solutions for Convenience and Safety

The capital repair project already has approved documentation and meets current standards, including accessibility requirements. Plans include not only the renewal of the road surface but also the repair of the stormwater drainage network, sidewalks, and the establishment of modern cycling infrastructure. If technically feasible, parking bays will be created along the street.

Particular attention will be paid to the safety of all road users: curb heights at pedestrian crossings will be lowered, and tactile navigation will be installed for people with limited mobility.

According to information from the electronic procurement system Prozorro, the total cost of the capital repair of Heroes of Mariupol Street is estimated at over 146.3 million hryvnias. The implementation of this project aims not only to improve infrastructure but also to enhance the level of comfort and safety for residents and visitors of the capital.
