Giant Apple: Weight and Variety Features
Information about the new record was announced by the head of the National Register of Records, Lana Vietrova. She noted that the achievement was made by 63-year-old Kyiv resident Yuriy Kozhemyakin.
“The largest apple in Ukraine was grown by 63-year-old Kyiv resident Yuriy Kozhemyakin… The giant apple weighs 1 kg 281 g and has a circumference of 50 cm,” Vietrova wrote.
Yuriy Kozhemyakin is a veterinarian by profession and practices gardening as a hobby. In his garden, there are about ten three-year-old apple trees, among which is a true heavyweight of French selection – the Jumbo Pomme variety. This variety is known for its particularly large fruits.
History of the Record and Personal Contribution
During the flowering of this variety, three fruits initially appeared on the seedling, but by the time of harvest, only one remained, which set the record. Yuriy Kozhemyakin dedicated his achievement to his grandparents, who instilled in him a love for gardening from childhood.
