A new national record for mass dictation with sign language translation has been set in Kyiv.

This is reported by Kyiv24

For the first time in Ukraine’s history, the National Register of Records has documented an achievement in which a significant number of people with special needs participated in writing a dictation. The event was unique because it was organized with sign language translation, ensuring accessibility for people with hearing impairments.

Participation of People with Hearing Impairments in the Record Dictation

This year, 195 individuals with hearing impairments from various regions of Ukraine joined the national dictation. Participants had the opportunity to take part both offline and online, allowing for a wide audience and making the event as inclusive as possible.

“195 people with hearing impairments from across Ukraine were able to join the national dictation both offline and online this year,” wrote Vetrova.

The Importance of Sign Language and Inclusion

According to Lana Vetrova, the head of the National Register of Records, the use of sign language in such events is particularly important for a barrier-free society. This is even more relevant considering the increasing number of Ukrainian soldiers who have lost their hearing due to combat actions. Such initiatives promote greater social integration and highlight the importance of making educational events accessible to all citizens.
