The Petition for the Dissolution of KP ‘Pleso’ Gains Momentum
Residents of Kyiv have submitted an electronic petition demanding the dissolution of KP ‘Pleso’, stating that the activities of the enterprise contradict its declared goal of protecting water bodies. According to the residents, ‘Pleso’ not only fails to protect the capital’s water bodies but also contributes to their destruction, thereby harming the ecological balance of the city.
“We demand immediate action regarding the activities of the municipal association ‘Pleso’, which, under the guise of caring for water bodies, systematically destroys these water bodies and green areas. These actions threaten the ecological balance of the city and are a direct violation of the rights of Kyiv residents to a safe and healthy environment,” the authors of the petition emphasize in the document.
Concerns of Kyiv Residents Regarding the Preservation of Water Bodies
The authors of the petition note that there are about 200 lakes and nearly 100 ponds left in Kyiv. At the same time, every third lake is partially built up, and attempts to develop every second one have been made. Recently, over 40 water bodies have already been destroyed. According to the city dwellers, ‘Pleso’ is virtually not taking measures to protect natural resources, and the main goal of the enterprise is to profit from so-called “improvements” and the concrete encasement of the shores.
In addition to environmental grievances, the petition signatories emphasize the high level of corruption in the activities of KP ‘Pleso’. They demand not only the dissolution of the enterprise but also an independent audit of its activities over the past five years, with subsequent publication of the reports.
