Public Initiative for Pedestrian Safety

The capital’s residents have reached out to the relevant departments of the city administration, requesting serious consideration of the installation of speed bumps at every pedestrian crossing. An electronic petition has already been posted on the official Kyiv City Council portal, and it is available for anyone to sign.

Arguments from Petition Initiators

The authors of the appeal note that, according to an analysis of compliance with traffic rules in Kyiv, a significant number of drivers do not reduce their speed before pedestrian crossings and sometimes even ignore traffic regulations. This creates additional risks for the lives and health of pedestrians.

With the aim of improving pedestrian safety, the signatories of the document emphasize that it is necessary to equip all pedestrian crossings in the capital with mandatory speed reduction measures.

Residents are convinced that equipping each crossing with special devices will compel drivers to be more attentive and adhere to safe speeds, which will significantly reduce the number of traffic accidents involving pedestrians.
