Initiative to Honor Stepan Higa
The author of the petition emphasizes that Stepan Higa played an important role in popularizing the Ukrainian language and music during the period of Ukraine’s independence. According to the initiator, the artist actively contributed to the development of national culture even in the challenging conditions of competition with foreign-language products.
Arguments for Renaming
The text of the petition highlights that Stepan Higa’s years of activity made a significant contribution to strengthening Ukrainian cultural identity and forming a positive image of Ukrainian pop music at the national level. The author proposes to recognize these achievements by naming one of the capital’s streets after the musician.
“In addition to his creative accomplishments, Stepan Higa, through his many years of work, contributed to the establishment of Ukrainian cultural identity and the formation of a positive image of Ukrainian pop music at the national level. Considering Stepan Petrovich Higa’s significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian culture, we believe it is appropriate and just to immortalize his name in the toponymy of the capital of Ukraine by renaming a street in the capital city of Kyiv,” the petition states.
Now, Kyiv residents have the opportunity to support this initiative by signing the petition online. If the necessary number of votes is gathered, the issue of renaming may be brought before the Kyiv City Council.
