In Kyiv, there are proposals to change the air raid alert cancellation signal due to its aggressiveness

Надто агресивний: у столиці пропонують змінити сигнал відбою повітряної тривоги

Kyiv residents are calling for a change to the air raid alert cancellation signal due to its excessive aggressiveness and negative impact on psychological well-being.

A petition to change the signal has appeared on the Kyiv City Council website

The capital is discussing the need to update the sound alert that signals the end of an air raid. The current signal often resembles or completely repeats the sound of the alert for the start of the raid — a loud, sharp wail that, according to the petition author, provokes a persistent negative reaction among the city’s residents.

“The current ‘All Clear’ signal, which often imitates or uses the same type of sound as the ‘Attention’ signal (a loud, sharp wail), causes a persistent negative emotional reaction, anxiety, and, in many cases, panic among the population. This leads to excessive stress and psychological trauma, which is unacceptable in the context of a prolonged war,” writes the petition author.

Suggestions for a new sound alert

The author of the petition notes that the current cancellation signal does not fulfill its main function — it does not inform about safety and a return to normal life. Instead, it only continues to escalate tension among the population.

The petition proposes to create a clear, calm, and easily recognizable sound alert that does not contain elements of a wail or siren. It suggests a short melodic signal or a repeated voice message saying, “Attention, air raid alert cancellation.” Such a change, according to the author, would help reduce stress levels among residents and promote psychological recovery during the prolonged war.
