In Kyiv, there are proposals to name a park in Podil after the Heroes of Mohyliantsi to honor the fighters for Ukraine

Безіменному скверу на Подолі пропонують присвоїти гідне ім’я

Residents of Kyiv, including students and faculty of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, are advocating for the official naming of one of the green spaces in Podil. This concerns a park located between Spaska Street, Kostiantynivska Street, and the “Kontraktova Ploshcha” metro station.

The corresponding initiative has been supported through an electronic petition on the Kyiv City Council’s website. According to the authors, this green space still lacks an official name, despite its recognized importance to the local residents as a place for recreation and historical memory.

The name is proposed to honor the Heroes of Mohyliantsi

The petition authors propose naming the park “Heroes of Mohyliantsi Park” to honor all generations of students and graduates of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy who have fought for Ukraine’s independence and freedom for over 400 years.

“We propose to name it ‘Heroes of Mohyliantsi Park’ — in honor of all generations of graduates and students of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy who have fought for Ukraine for over 400 years.”

The authors emphasize that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into the country, 27 Mohyliantsi have lost their lives in this struggle for the freedom and independence of Ukraine. At the same time, the park is not only about the memory of the fallen but also about the life, struggle, and hope that continue. It is a space that combines the memory of those who gave their lives with inspiration for contemporary students and faculty who learn, volunteer, fight, and create a new Ukraine every day.

It is noted that many Kyiv residents support the initiative, including Podil residents, students, and faculty of Mohylianka, who wish to immortalize the memory of the heroes and create a symbolic place for future generations. A video with arguments and voting is ongoing on the official website of the Kyiv City Council.
