A Man from Tajikistan to Be Tried in Kyiv for Raping a Woman in His Apartment

An indictment has been sent to court regarding a 29-year-old citizen of Tajikistan, who is accused of raping a woman in his own apartment after being released from prison.

Circumstances of the Crime

According to the investigation, the incident occurred in the spring of this year. After being released from prison, the man was asked to provide temporary housing for a woman who had come to Kyiv from another city to arrange documents for her departure abroad to join her family. In the evening, when the woman went to bed, the man entered her room and raped her. The victim resisted, resulting in bruises and abrasions.

“It has been established that the man’s acquaintances asked him to provide accommodation for a few days for a woman who had come to Kyiv from another city to arrange documents for her departure abroad, where her relatives were waiting for her. In the evening, when the woman went to bed, he approached her bed and raped her. The victim resisted, resulting in bruises and abrasions,” the statement reads.

Qualification of the Crime and Punishment

The actions of the suspect have been classified under Part 1 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — rape. The penalty for this article provides for imprisonment for up to five years.

The prosecution notes that in 2021, this man was already sentenced to five years in prison for robbery. He is currently in custody awaiting trial.
