Kyiv animal rights activists conducted a rescue operation in one of the apartments in Obolon, where they found a wolf that the owner was keeping as a pet. According to representatives from the Wild Animal Rescue Center, the animal was in a state of stress due to inappropriate living conditions, which led to increased aggression. As a result, the wolf attacked its owner, causing her serious injuries to her arm and thigh.
Case of Repeated Wild Animal Keeping
The injured woman was able to receive medical assistance at the hospital, but after being discharged, she could not return home – the wolf would not allow her into the apartment, displaying aggression. She was forced to seek help from animal volunteers, who promptly responded to the situation.
“This woman is not new to keeping wild animals, as seven years ago, two wolves – Arman and Malish – were removed from her care. After treatment, we sent them to live abroad in good conditions. And now she has again purchased a wolf on the animal-planet website (yes, it is that easy to buy a wild animal here) and is now facing the consequences of this,” stated the Wild Animals Rescue Center.
Unsanitary Conditions and Violation of Veterinary Standards
The apartment where the wolf was kept was found to be extremely unsanitary, dirty, and had a strong unpleasant odor. The animal had not received the necessary vaccinations and veterinary care, which posed additional dangers both to people and to the wolf itself. Volunteers reported that they are taking measures to prevent similar cases in the future, including arrangements with neighbors for monitoring and timely reporting in case new wild animals appear in this residence.
Volunteers also expressed their gratitude to the doctors who professionally provided assistance in extreme conditions and helped save the animal, despite the challenging circumstances.
