A man will stand trial in Kyiv for committing a series of violent crimes against women after being released from prison.

The Suspect Previously Served Time for Serious Crimes
According to law enforcement information, the suspect is a native of the Cherkasy region. In 2014, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder with intent for gain, robbery, and armed assault. After serving nearly his entire sentence, he was released in July of this year.
However, according to the investigation materials, he committed at least two new attacks on women in the capital shortly after his release. One of the incidents occurred in the Dnipro district of Kyiv. There, the suspect threatened a girl with a knife, took her personal belongings, and then committed sexual violence and rape.
“It has been established that in the Dnipro district of Kyiv, the accused attacked a 20-year-old Kyiv resident with a knife, took her jewelry and money, and then committed sexual violence and rape. The man’s actions have been classified under Part 1 of Article 153, Part 2 of Article 152, and Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, specifically as: committing violent sexual acts; rape committed by a person who has previously committed a similar crime, and robbery,” the statement reads.
The Suspect is Being Held in Custody
It has been officially reported that the criminal proceedings regarding these crimes are already under consideration in the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv. The man is charged under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine that provide for liability for sexual violence, repeated rape, and robbery.
Currently, the suspect remains in custody until the court issues a verdict.
