Details of the Air Attack on the Capital
On the night of August 28, Russia launched its second largest air attack of the entire war, firing over 600 strike drones and 31 missiles. These attacks were aimed not at military targets, but at residential areas, civilian trains, and the offices of EU and UK representatives, leading to numerous casualties among the civilian population.
“Last night, Russia carried out the second largest air attack of the war, using 600 drones and 31 missiles. The targets? Not soldiers and weapons, but the residential areas of Kyiv – they struck civilian trains, the offices of EU and UK missions, as well as innocent civilians. These outrageous attacks threaten the peace that the U.S. President seeks.”
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, the consequences of the strikes were recorded at over 20 locations in the Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Holosiivskyi, Obolonskyi, and Desnianskyi districts. The residential neighborhoods of the Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts were particularly affected, where a direct missile strike destroyed part of a five-story building.
Casualties and Destruction
Operational information from the State Emergency Service indicates that the death toll from the shelling of Kyiv has risen to 19, including four children, while at least 52 people have been injured. Rescuers continue search and rescue operations at the sites of destruction, having already recovered the body of another victim from the rubble.
According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as a result of the massive attack, missile and kamikaze drone strikes were recorded at 13 sites, and debris from downed munitions fell at another 26 locations.
Russia systematically employs various types of weaponry, including strike drones, missiles, aerial bombs, and multiple launch rocket systems, to attack Ukrainian cities and infrastructure facilities.
Despite numerous testimonies, the Russian leadership denies the facts of targeted strikes on civilian infrastructure, schools, hospitals, energy, and water supply facilities, which lead to civilian casualties.
Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify these actions as war crimes of the Russian Federation and note their deliberate nature.
