Purpose of the Visit and Support for Ukraine

The head of the Moldovan government stated that he came to Kyiv with an important message of solidarity from the entire Moldovan people. Alexandru Montyanu emphasized Moldova’s support for Ukraine in its pursuit of peace and European integration.

“On behalf of the people of Moldova, I bring a clear message of solidarity. We stand with Ukraine as neighbors and friends, united in our commitment to a just and sustainable peace and a shared future in the EU,” said Montyanu.

European Integration: Common Challenges

Ukraine and Moldova received permission for the official start of negotiations for EU membership back in December 2023. However, the negotiation process has not yet begun, as Hungary is blocking Ukraine’s progress due to accusations of violating the rights of the Hungarian-speaking minority.

The Ukrainian authorities have not yet announced official meetings with the Prime Minister of Moldova, but Alexandru Montyanu’s visit underscores the close cooperation between the two countries on issues of regional security and integration into the EU.
