The Svyatoshyn District Court of Kyiv has sentenced a 50-year-old man who raped and murdered a 69-year-old woman. For his crimes, he will spend the next 15 years behind bars, according to the court’s decision.

The woman’s body was discovered in a green area of the Svyatoshyn district in August 2024. Forensic experts confirmed that the victim had been raped and suffered multiple internal injuries that led to her death.
“The woman went on a date with an acquaintance who had been convicted of rape and theft in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in 2005. The man arrived at the meeting with flowers, bought vegetables for the woman at a local market at her request, and treated her to alcohol. However, the outdoor meeting ended in a quarrel during which the man raped his acquaintance and then strangled her. After that, he covered the woman’s body with a blanket and fled home,” the prosecutor’s office reported.
The man was charged under parts 2 of Article 115 and 5 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provide for penalties for rape and intentional murder. He will remain in custody until the verdict becomes legally binding.
