Support for Ukraine in Security

Rutte noted that NATO members continue to actively support Ukraine amid increasing threats from Russia. “In the first three months of this year, Alliance members have already committed to allocate over 20 billion euros for security assistance by 2025. Our command in Wiesbaden continues to coordinate the provision of security and training assistance for Ukraine,” he emphasized.

Threats from Russia

The Secretary General also highlighted the threats posed by Russia, which is actively collaborating with China, Iran, and North Korea. These actions not only harm Ukraine but also create risks for the security of the Alliance as a whole.

“When we meet tomorrow evening in the Ukraine-NATO Council, we will hear from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha. He will inform us about the current situation in Ukraine, as well as his views on the process of achieving a just and lasting peace,” Rutte noted.

The meeting of NATO foreign ministers will be an important step towards creating a “new chapter for NATO,” which is planned to be initiated during the summit in The Hague in June.
