Negotiations Regarding Ukraine: Trump Believes Things Are Going Well

перемовини щодо України «йдуть нормально», але треба діяти, а не говорити

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed the opinion that the negotiations to end Russia’s war against Ukraine “might be going well.” He made this statement while speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One, noting that “there comes a time when you either have to act or be quiet.”

Call to Action

“There is a moment when you either have to act or be quiet. We’ll see what happens next, but I think everything is going well,” Trump added. He used the English idiom “put up or shut up,” which means “prove it or be quiet.” This expression is typically used when urging someone to move from words to actions.

Diplomatic Efforts

In recent weeks, several meetings and phone calls have taken place between representatives of Ukraine and the U.S., as well as separately between Russia and the U.S., to discuss possibilities for a ceasefire in the war. In particular, on March 11, during negotiations, Ukraine managed to secure U.S. agreement for a 30-day truce. Russian President Vladimir Putin did not dismiss this idea but put forward his conditions.

On April 11, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff held a meeting with Putin that lasted over four hours. The meeting took place at the presidential library in St. Petersburg. Earlier, the White House confirmed Witkoff’s visit, stating that it is part of diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine and concluding a peace agreement.

“Various aspects of the Ukrainian settlement” will be discussed, and the Kremlin intends to convey “the key elements of Russia’s position and concerns” directly to U.S. President Donald Trump.
