Prospects for a Trilateral Summit
According to sources, discussions about Zelensky’s potential visit to Alaska are currently ongoing. One of the interlocutors noted that the idea of an invitation is under consideration, while another source emphasized that the US administration “is very hopeful that it will happen.”
Commenting on the situation, a senior White House official stated that the US President remains open to holding a trilateral summit involving the leaders of the US, Russia, and Ukraine. At the same time, the primary focus is currently on preparing for a bilateral meeting between Trump and Putin, from which, according to the official, an official request had come from the Russian President.
Possible Participation of the Ukrainian President
Other sources report that the White House does not rule out Zelensky’s participation in some events during the summit in Alaska. However, officials emphasize that all major meetings involving the head of the Ukrainian state will likely take place after the negotiations between Trump and Putin.
As is known, a summit between the US and Russian presidents was announced for August 8, set to take place on August 15 in Alaska. The main topic of the negotiations is the search for ways to end the war waged by Moscow against Ukraine. According to leaked drafts of a possible peace agreement being discussed between Kyiv, Moscow, and Washington, the document contains provisions for territorial concessions from Ukraine that Russia may agree to and the US may support.
Zelensky stated on August 9 that Ukraine will not “give away its land.” On social media, he wrote that he “sees no shifts in the Russian position.”
