An innovative system for protection against enemy drones has been launched in Kyiv
A new system for intercepting Russian strike drones is being implemented in Ukraine’s capital. As reported by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachенко, the city is intensifying efforts to strengthen air defense through the large-scale project “Clear Sky.”
“We are launching a full-fledged system for intercepting enemy drones flying towards Kyiv. The capital is allocating more funds for the implementation of the large-scale project “Clear Sky,” which aims to protect airspace using domestic interceptor drones,” wrote Timur Tkachенко.
Funding and Project Structure
This initiative is allocated a funding of 260 million hryvnias. The funds will be directed both towards the procurement of modern equipment and the creation of an effective operational response system to aerial threats.
As part of the project, a specialized structure is planned to be established — a training center for operators, where specialists will undergo training in managing interceptor drones. Additionally, the formation of additional mobile units is ongoing, which will be on duty in the capital and its outskirts.
Coordination with the Military and Results of “Clear Sky”
To ensure maximum effectiveness, the system will operate in close coordination with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Air Force, and other defense units. This approach will allow for the integration of the new system into the already existing air defense network.
According to Timur Tkachенко, the “Clear Sky” project has already demonstrated its effectiveness: in just a few months of operation in the Kyiv region, nearly 550 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles have been intercepted. This indicates a high level of training among Ukrainian specialists and the effectiveness of using domestic technologies in combating aerial threats.
