“A report was received on line 112 about an aggressive dog wandering the street without its owner in the Svyatoshyn district. The patrol officers quickly arrived at the scene, where they found the animal without a muzzle, roaming a busy street,” the patrol police press service reported.
The police warned local residents about the danger and advised them to close their doors. At the same time, they attempted to contact the dog’s owner, but he did not answer phone calls.
Use of Firearm and Consequences for the Officer
During the patrol, a woman with a child approached the officers, needing assistance to safely pass by the aggressive animal. When the officer tried to escort them, the dog suddenly attacked him and bit his leg. Due to the real threat to the life and health of those present, the officer, guided by Article 46 of the Law of Ukraine “On the National Police,” was forced to use his service firearm to neutralize the animal.
As a result of the attack, the patrol officer sustained injuries and was forced to seek medical assistance. The police emphasized the responsibility of pet owners:
“We emphasize: being a dog owner is a great responsibility; an aggressive animal without a muzzle, leash, and owner can unfortunately harm citizens,” law enforcement officials stressed.
