This week, the next session of the World Economic Forum begins in Davos, Switzerland, promising to be a platform for discussing key international issues, including the situation surrounding the war in Ukraine.

Participation of the Russian Delegation and Talks with the US

Kirill Dmitriev, the special envoy of the President of the Russian Federation, will visit Davos, where he plans to hold talks with representatives of the American delegation. This was reported by sources familiar with the organization of the visit. The negotiations are expected to take place within the framework of the annual World Economic Forum, which will last five days under the slogan “In the Spirit of Dialogue.”

Meanwhile, tense diplomatic contacts continue among other forum participants. In particular, the head of the Ukrainian negotiating group, Rustem Umerov, emphasized that consultations with American officials regarding the resolution of the nearly four-year war with Russia will continue during the events in Davos.

Dialogue between the US, Russia, Ukraine, and Europe

This year’s forum will personally feature former US President Donald Trump, who will be accompanied by a large American delegation. Last year, he addressed forum participants via video format.

The Kremlin, for its part, is preparing to host Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner in Moscow to discuss a peaceful resolution regarding Ukraine, although specific dates for the visit have not yet been determined.

Dmitriev visited the United States at the end of last year, where he held two days of negotiations with Witkoff and Kushner, after which he reported the results to President Putin.

Witkoff described the talks as “productive and constructive.”

Subsequently, Witkoff and Kushner met with representatives from Ukraine and Europe, as well as held a separate meeting with the Ukrainian delegation led by Rustem Umerov.

At the end of December, a phone call took place between Trump and Putin, during which the parties discussed the situation in Ukraine. The White House characterized this conversation as “positive.”

In an interview published on January 14, Donald Trump expressed the opinion that it is Ukraine, not Russia, that is delaying the achievement of a potential peace agreement. This statement significantly differs from the positions of European leaders.

Meetings and discussions in Davos are taking place against the backdrop of rising international political tension, making this year’s forum particularly significant for seeking ways to overcome global conflicts.
