Increased Threat and Call to Partners

“I spoke with Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker. I am grateful for the condolences regarding the ongoing Russian air attacks. I informed the Chancellor about our intelligence data that the Russians are preparing a new massive strike on Ukrainian cities and communities. It is very important that there are joint responses from partners to these shellings, primarily in terms of anti-ballistic supplies,” he wrote on Telegram.

Zelensky did not specify the details of the planned strike but emphasized the need for united efforts from international partners, especially regarding the supply of modern missile defense systems to protect Ukrainian cities and civilians.

Threats from Russia and the Reaction of the International Community

Earlier, on May 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation announced strikes on “decision-making centers and command posts” in Kyiv. In their statement, Russian diplomats urged foreign citizens, including staff of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations, to leave the capital of Ukraine as soon as possible.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on these threats, emphasizing that the security level for Kyiv and other cities remains unchanged compared to previous years and months. Ukrainian diplomats called the new statements from Russia “shameless blackmail” and assured that they are ready to enhance the protection of foreign diplomatic missions if appropriate requests are made.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov personally warned the American side about the dangers of staying in Kyiv. In response, Rubio noted that the capital of Ukraine has been a dangerous place for several years while emphasizing the U.S. readiness to continue mediating efforts to resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine.

During a UN Security Council meeting on May 28, the United States sharply criticized Russia’s actions and called on the Kremlin to refrain from threats to carry out new “systemic strikes” on Kyiv.
