Russia Strikes American Businesses in Ukraine: Consequences for the US Economy

Удари РФ по енергетиці України загрожують ядерною аварією для всієї Європи – Сибіга

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha criticized the actions of the Russian Federation, which, despite previous statements about a desire to “reset” economic relations with the United States, is carrying out targeted attacks on American companies operating in Ukraine.

Strikes on Strategic Facilities: Boeing, Flex, Bunge

Sybiha emphasized that Russian military forces have struck the office of Boeing in Kyiv, the Flex facility in Mukachevo, and the Bunge production site in Dnipro. According to him, these attacks are aimed not only at the Ukrainian people but also directly at American economic interests. The minister stressed that each of these attacks is a blow to the US economy, as the facilities belong to American companies.

“Russia is deliberately striking American businesses in Ukraine, including the Boeing office in Kyiv, the Flex plant in Mukachevo, and the Bunge production facility in Dnipro. The Russians are attacking not only the Ukrainian people but also American taxpayers. All these strikes have been blows to the American economy. The American Chamber of Commerce reports that during the full-scale war, 47% of American companies in Ukraine have been affected by Russian strikes, with 57% reporting injured employees and 38% reporting fatalities among workers.”

Attack on the Flex Plant and Reactions

As a result of a missile strike on the city of Mukachevo in Transcarpathia, Russia used “Kalibr” missiles against a civilian enterprise. The mayor, Andriy Baloga, clarified that the target of the attack was the Flex plant, an American company specializing in electronics that employed thousands of residents in the region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Russia expended several cruise missiles to strike this plant, which produced household products, including coffee machines. Flextronics (Flex) confirmed the damage to the facility, and company representative Conor Phillips stated that the consequences of the attack are currently being assessed and emphasized: the plant produced exclusively civilian products.

In response to these events, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov assured in August 2025 that Russia “never and under no circumstances intentionally attacked facilities unrelated to Ukraine’s military capabilities.”

Andriy Sybiha noted that through such attacks, Russia is attempting to undermine US influence in Europe, and he referred to the Kremlin’s proposals for economic cooperation as a “Potemkin village.”

At the same time, Ukraine, according to the minister, offers the United States mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of rare earth minerals, high technologies, defense industry, and drone production. The Ukrainian side aims to strengthen “success stories” through the implementation of the Prosperity Plan.
