Consequences of the Attack: Casualties, Injuries, and Destruction
As a result of the strike, at least three people were killed, and over twenty were injured, including three children. The explosions occurred around 9 a.m. Preliminary reports indicate that five hits were recorded in the city from long-range multiple launch rocket systems. Among the damaged objects were a medical facility, private homes, and vehicles. One of the shells hit the roadway of a central street, resulting in two cars being completely burned. Some of the injured are in critical condition.

Government Response and Day of Mourning
The Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that rescue services continue to operate at the scene of the tragedy, providing assistance to the victims. It is known that one of the shells did not detonate and penetrated the wall of an apartment on the 9th floor of a residential building. The acting mayor Artem Kobzar declared June 4 a Day of Mourning in Sumy for those killed as a result of the Russian shelling.

“The Russians brutally struck Sumy. Right in the city, on ordinary streets – with rocket artillery. An absolutely deliberate attack on civilians. A rescue operation is currently underway. Many are injured. As of now, three fatalities are confirmed. My condolences to the families and loved ones. All services are engaged to help all the victims. At least one shell from the MLRS is known to have not detonated. This shell penetrated the wall of a room in an ordinary apartment on the 9th floor. Everything you need to know about Russia’s ‘desire’ to end this war. It is clear that without pressure from the world, without decisive actions from the United States, Europe, and everyone in the world who has power, Putin will not agree even to a ceasefire. Not a single day goes by without Russia striking cities and villages in Ukraine. Every day we lose our people due to Russian terror. Every day Russia provides reasons to strengthen sanctions against it and increase support for our defense. And I thank everyone in the world who promotes such an agenda: sanctions for aggression and the killing of people, assistance in protecting the lives of Ukrainians.”
Attacks on Other Cities: Consequences for Chernihiv and Odesa
On the same day, Russian strike drones attacked Chernihiv. As a result of the shelling, five people were injured, two of whom are in serious condition. Seven private homes, an industrial enterprise, 80 apartments, an educational institution, and four other infrastructure facilities were damaged.
In Odesa, explosions were recorded in the early morning due to kamikaze drone attacks. The number of injured has risen to five. A food warehouse caught fire as a result of the hits, damaging residential buildings and passenger cars.
