The Security Service of Ukraine has prevented an attempt to organize a terrorist attack in the very center of Kyiv by detaining a woman suspected of collaborating with Russian special services.

Preparation for a Terrorist Attack in a Café in the Capital
The evening of July 23 could have been tragic for Kyiv residents: the SBU counterintelligence detained the suspect woman during her attempt to plant explosives in a café in the central part of the city. According to the investigation, she planned to leave two homemade explosive devices with a total power of about 1.5 kg in TNT equivalent at the establishment.
“As the investigation established, the Russian order was carried out by a Kyiv resident who was recruited by the occupiers to commit a terrorist act under a ‘foreign flag,’ convincing the woman that she was supposedly to carry out a task for the SBU,” the statement reads.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect on-site as she was entering the café – explosive devices were already hidden in her bag. Currently, efforts are underway to establish the channels through which she could have obtained these dangerous items.
Connection with Russian Curators and the Purpose of the Terrorist Attack
During a search of the suspect, a mobile phone was seized containing evidence of contacts with representatives of the occupying forces. The investigation established that she received the exact geolocation for the future explosion from a Russian curator, where she was to leave the explosives. According to the SBU, the devices were planned to be detonated remotely in the evening when the café would be most crowded.
According to the case materials, the purpose of the terrorist attack was to create mass casualties among the civilian population during peak hours at the establishment. Furthermore, Ukrainian intelligence emphasizes that such provocations are aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country, increasing social tension, and attempting to weaken the state’s resilience during wartime.
