Law enforcement officials have detained a 52-year-old resident of Kyiv, who is suspected of illegally selling ammunition used to make so-called “souvenirs.”

Explosion at the Sorting Center: Case Details
The investigation has established that a 40-year-old resident of Ternopil purchased ammunition through an online advertisement. After engraving, he mailed them, but one of the packages containing a shell exploded during inspection at the Ukrposhta sorting center. The man who sent the dangerous cargo was detained and charged.
“Police have determined that the 40-year-old resident of Ternopil purchased ammunition through an advertisement on an online resource to make souvenirs from them. After engraving them, he sent them via postal shipments. Consequently, the explosive package with the shell detonated at the sorting center during inspection. The man was detained and charged.”
Detention of the Seller and New Details
In December 2025, operatives from the criminal investigation department, together with SBU officers, identified and detained the seller of explosive items – a 52-year-old Kyiv resident. During a search of his residence, law enforcement officials seized an arsenal of ammunition, including a grenade launcher round, parts from ammunition, and cartridges. Investigative actions are currently ongoing to determine the sources of the seized explosive items.
