Visit to the Affected Area

While in Kyiv, the American senator, along with Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, National Police Chief Ivan Vyhivskyi, and the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Ukraine, Julie Davis, inspected the site of the Russian attack as well as the houses that were damaged by the blast wave. Ukrainian officials provided Blumenthal with detailed information about the consequences of the shelling and discussed the challenges faced by the residents of the area.

“Russia is deliberately conducting combined attacks, shelling Ukrainian cities with missiles and drones. We are convinced that strikes on civilian infrastructure are not accidental but a targeted tactic. We sincerely empathize with everything you are going through. And we are here to say: your sacrifices are also our sacrifices,” emphasized Blumenthal while at the site of the destroyed building.

Support for Ukraine and the Need to Strengthen Air Defense

After familiarizing himself with the consequences of the shelling, Senator Blumenthal assured that upon his return to the U.S., he would convey to his colleagues the urgent need to provide additional military assistance to Ukraine. In particular, this includes increasing the supply of weapons and air defense systems, which are critically important for effectively protecting Ukrainian cities from missile and drone attacks.

The senator specifically noted the ability of Ukrainians to quickly adapt to the new challenges of war and develop effective solutions for their own defense and victory. Emphasizing his deep admiration for the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people, he reminded that this is already his seventh visit to Ukraine, and each of these trips inspires him even more to support Ukrainians on their path to victory.
