Main Issues of Ukrainian-Turkish Negotiations

President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the purpose of his visit is to activate negotiations with international partners. The Ukrainian side has already prepared a number of solutions that it plans to discuss with the meeting participants. Special attention will be given to issues related to ending the war and the return of Ukrainian prisoners.

“Bringing an end to the war by all means is Ukraine’s top priority. We are also working to restore exchanges and the return of prisoners,” the president stated.

Turkey as a Mediator in the Negotiations

This is not the first time Turkey has acted as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia. The last such negotiations took place in June when delegations from both countries met in Istanbul and reached agreements on the exchange of prisoners of war.

On November 15, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov reported that consultations had taken place in Turkey and the UAE regarding the restoration of prisoner exchanges with the Russian Federation. This concerns the return home of 1,200 Ukrainian citizens.
