Sybiga called the statements of the Russian representative at the UN a challenge for all supporters of peace

Сибіга назвав заяви представника Росії в Радбезі ООН «ляпасом всім, хто виступає за мир»

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga commented on the speech of the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, which took place at the Security Council meeting on May 30. The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry drew attention to the aggressive rhetoric of the Russian side, particularly Nebenzya’s words about Russia’s readiness to wage war “as long as necessary.”

Russia’s Statements at the UN Security Council

According to Sybiga, the representative’s speech was a direct challenge not only to Ukraine but also to all countries advocating for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The minister noted that Moscow is using the highest international platforms to broadcast its bellicose rhetoric instead of engaging in constructive diplomacy. Sybiga emphasized that such a position is a slap in the face to all who seek to end the war and restore peace.

“When the whole world insists that it is time to immediately stop the killings and start meaningful diplomacy, Russia is using the highest diplomatic platforms to spew such bellicose rhetoric. This is a slap in the face from Russia to everyone who advocates for peace. Not only to Ukraine but also to the United States, European countries, China, Brazil, and others,” said Sybiga.

Call for Increased International Pressure

The minister stressed that Kyiv expects a reaction from the international community to Moscow’s statements, which undermine the prospects for the peace process. Sybiga urged partners to strengthen sanctions against Russia and increase support for Ukraine, noting that “they do not understand normal treatment or diplomatic language; it is time to speak to them in the language of sanctions and increased support for Ukraine.”

During the UN Security Council meeting on May 30, Sergey Nebenzya once again accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of unwillingness to end the war and made demands that included stopping military aid to Ukraine and mobilization into the Ukrainian Defense Forces as a condition for a ceasefire. The Russian diplomat reiterated that Russia is ready to continue military operations “as long as necessary.”
