Sybiga: Ukraine is Ready for Negotiations with Russia for Peace but Requires Substantive Decisions

Сибіга повідомив про консультації щодо місця і формату нової зустрічі зі США і європейськими партнерами

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga emphasized Kyiv’s readiness to engage in substantive negotiations with the Russian Federation to establish peace. According to him, Ukraine seeks dialogue during which concrete decisions regarding the cessation of war are made. Sybiga made this statement in response to a question about a possible third round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Turkey.

Ukraine Insists on a High-Level Meeting

Andriy Sybiga highlighted that the Ukrainian side is interested in a meeting at the presidential level that would facilitate a ceasefire and halt hostilities. He noted that the last meeting in Istanbul primarily focused on discussing exchange issues, without any real progress in resolving the conflict. The minister emphasized that Kyiv continues to work on organizing dialogue that will bring peace closer for Ukrainians.

“We need negotiations where decisions are made, where issues are resolved. Right now, we see that the last round of meetings in Istanbul essentially boiled down to discussions about exchanges. Therefore, we are interested in a meeting at the presidential level. And we are ready for such a meeting. We will see how it goes from there. Our main priority is to bring peace closer. For us, achieving a ceasefire and stopping the fire is crucial right now,” said the minister.

Ukraine Demonstrates Constructiveness, Russia – Ultimativeness

The minister reminded that previous rounds of negotiations have demonstrated Kyiv’s desire for peace and a constructive approach. At the same time, Sybiga accused the Russian side of complete inadequacy and unwillingness to abandon its ultimatum rhetoric. He noted that Russia continues to demand Ukraine’s capitulation, which makes progress in negotiations impossible.

Sybiga emphasized that Ukraine has always been and remains open to seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict. He thanked the U.S. and President Donald Trump for their personal involvement in the peace process and noted that Ukraine supports all international initiatives aimed at achieving a just peace this year.

The Foreign Minister called on the international community to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia. He expressed hope that during the G7 summit, which will take place from June 15 to 17 in Canada, new stringent decisions regarding sanctions and frozen Russian assets will be adopted.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he would soon announce whether Russian President Vladimir Putin truly intends to end the war in Ukraine. Following this, on June 2, negotiations took place in Istanbul between the delegations of Ukraine and Russia. The Ukrainian side insisted on a ceasefire and the organization of a high-level meeting, including the possibility of Trump’s participation, but Moscow rejected these proposals.
