The Tenth Ukrainian Film Festival in Warsaw
From November 3, the tenth annual film festival dedicated entirely to Ukrainian cinema will take place in Warsaw. Over the course of the week, audiences will have the opportunity to watch nearly 60 films in three central cinemas of the city: ‘Kinooteka’, ‘Atlantic’, and ‘Illuzjon’. The program features feature films, documentaries, animations, and short films.
Particular attention is drawn to the film ‘Bucha’ by director Stanislav Tiunov, in which one of the leading roles is played by Oleksandr Pecheritsa, an actor from the Ivan Franko Theater. Among other premieres are the films ‘Victor’, ‘2000 Meters from Andriivka’ (a work by Myroslav Chernov, presented as Ukraine’s submission for the 2025 Oscars), as well as ‘Letters from the Front’.
Special Screenings and Events of the Festival
The festival will open with the popular film ‘You Are Cosmos’ by director Pavlo Ostrikov. In addition to the main competition program, the organizers offer special screenings, including the premiere of the documentary film ‘Dovzhenko’, as well as a series of events beyond the cinema screens: meetings with directors, master classes, and a poster exhibition.
The final highlight of the film forum will be the screening of Alexander Dovzhenko’s silent classic ‘The Berry of Love’ accompanied by live music from the British band The Tiger Lillies, who are Grammy nominees.
The festival’s motto is ‘Cinema of Freedom’. Despite the war, Ukrainian directors are making films that tell stories of pain, hope, and resilience, proving that culture cannot be destroyed.
A prize fund is provided for the competition participants: 2000 euros for the winner among feature films, 1500 euros for the best documentary, and 1000 euros for the short film.
After its conclusion in Warsaw, the festival will continue its journey across Poland: residents of Lodz, Wroclaw, Krakow, Lublin, Przemysl, and other cities in the country will be able to see it.
