The US Expects the War in Ukraine to End by the End of 2025 — Position of Trump and Witkoff

Трамп і Віткофф знову говорять про завершення війни в Україні

The United States of America predicts a possible end to the war in Ukraine by the end of 2025. This was announced by the special envoy of the US president, Stephen Witkoff, during a cabinet meeting with Donald Trump in Washington. He emphasized that he has repeatedly participated in negotiations with representatives of the Russian Federation and met with its leader, Vladimir Putin.

Negotiations and International Initiatives

Witkoff noted that this week the American side plans to organize a series of meetings aimed at resolving not only the Ukrainian-Russian conflict but also other hotspots, including the war in the Gaza Strip and the confrontation between Israel and Iran. He expressed hope that resolutions to these conflicts could be achieved by the end of this year.

“We hope to resolve them by the end of this year,” Witkoff said about these conflicts.

US President Donald Trump, for his part, emphasized his desire to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible, although he did not specify any timelines. He also highlighted the readiness to impose economic sanctions on Russia if Putin does not demonstrate a willingness for peace. Trump characterized these measures as an “economic war” but stressed that the US does not intend to engage in a global military conflict.

The US Position and Prospects for Ukraine’s Security

Donald Trump added that he would seek a personal meeting between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine to achieve peace. In response to comments regarding Putin’s refusal to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump stated that “it doesn’t matter what they say” and called such statements political games. He also emphasized that the responsibility for delaying the peace process lies with both sides and did not rule out the possibility of imposing sanctions or tariffs not only on Russia but also on Ukraine.

Since the beginning of his presidency, Trump has repeatedly advocated for a swift end to the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine and has focused on the necessity of reaching a peace agreement. Recently, US representatives have noted some progress in negotiations, including due to Trump’s meetings with Putin and Zelensky. At the same time, Russia continues to make additional demands and avoids a personal meeting between the two leaders. The White House reports that both sides have already shown a willingness to make certain concessions compared to their previous positions.

Ukraine, for its part, insists on receiving security guarantees. According to information released on August 26, citing sources from the Financial Times, the US has expressed readiness to provide air and intelligence support for a possible mission of European countries that may deploy troops in Ukraine after the cessation of hostilities. Sources for the publication believe that obtaining security support guarantees from the US is a significant achievement for both Ukraine and its European partners. At the same time, Russia opposes the deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine, which raises questions about the proposed model of security guarantees.
