U.S. Position on Peaceful Resolution

During a briefing, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tamara Bruce emphasized that Washington supports any initiative that contributes to establishing a fair, durable, and lasting peace. According to her, the U.S. President is open to all mechanisms that can ensure the cessation of war and a return to peaceful coexistence.

“We continue to support direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The President supports any mechanism that leads to a fair, durable, and lasting peace – any mechanism. There is no military solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and a diplomatic resolution is necessary,” said U.S. State Department spokesperson Tamara Bruce during the briefing.

Tamara Bruce also drew attention to the recent mass missile strikes on Ukraine, which have been the most powerful since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by Russia. She emphasized that the attacks are causing civilian casualties, and the U.S. President has repeatedly called for their cessation, expressing extraordinary concern about this issue.

Trump’s Reaction and Further Sanctions

On May 25, U.S. President Donald Trump sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin on the social media platform Truth Social following another massive shelling of Ukraine. Two days later, he made another strong statement, emphasizing that without his intervention, the situation with Russia could have been significantly worse. In his post, Trump noted that Putin is “playing with fire.”

The Kremlin responded to these statements, explaining them as the “emotional burden of everyone absolutely.” At the same time, according to Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, the U.S. President’s approach to resolving the war was described as “balanced.”

The Wall Street Journal, citing its own sources, reported that Donald Trump is considering the possibility of imposing new sanctions against the Russian Federation. The aim of these sanctions would be to compel Russia to make concessions, including agreeing to a 30-day ceasefire, as insisted upon by the American President. However, according to journalists, a final decision on the sanctions has not yet been made.
