The United States of America has proposed to its European allies to lift some sanctions against Russia in the event of achieving a lasting and stable peace in Ukraine. Speaking in Paris, U.S. representatives outlined proposals that include conditions for ceasing hostilities and possible easing of restrictions if the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is halted for the long term.

According to information from Bloomberg, European officials reported that these proposals are essentially aimed at freezing the conflict. They stated that the territories occupied by Russia will remain under Moscow’s control, and the issue of Ukraine’s NATO membership will be removed from the agenda. One source in this discussion noted:
“Plans that require further discussion with Kyiv do not mean a final settlement. European countries do not recognize the territories occupied by Russia, and the negotiation process will be contentious if the Kremlin does not agree to cease hostilities.”
Before departing from Paris, where negotiations involving Ukraine, the U.S., France, the United Kingdom, and Germany took place, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken noted that Washington hopes for a quick outcome from the negotiations regarding the end of the war with Russia in the coming days. He added: “I am talking about a matter of days, not weeks, and if possible, we will do everything we can to facilitate this.”
Possible Scenarios and Reactions to the Situation
U.S. President Donald Trump stated the day before that he expects to receive Russia’s position on a ceasefire by the end of the week. At the same time, an official representative from Moscow reported that the country seeks peace, but on its own terms, including Ukraine’s renunciation of the occupied Crimea and four regions, as well as a refusal to join NATO and other concessions.
Recently, Trump has emphasized several times that Russia needs to move from words to actions and demonstrate its readiness for peace. At the same time, he criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and former President Joe Biden for what he believes are insufficient steps taken to avoid the conflict, which he considers the responsibility of both leaders.
