On May 13, the 78th Cannes Film Festival will begin in France, coinciding with a special event – the celebration of “Ukraine Day” on the main stage of the forum. As part of this event, three Ukrainian documentary films dedicated to the war and its consequences will be presented to the audience. This will serve as a reminder of the importance of telling the story of Ukrainian resistance and courage in the heart of Europe.

Program and Featured Films
Three Ukrainian films will be screened on the main stage of the festival. The first is “Zelensky” by director Iva Zholan, which focuses on the life and struggle of Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as the challenges facing the Ukrainian leader during wartime. The second is “2000 Meters to Andriivka” by Myroslav Chernov, who was awarded the prize for Best Directing at the Sundance Festival. This film depicts real events and the daily lives of civilians under fire in Kyiv. The third is “Notre Guerre” (“Our War”) by Bernard-Henri Lévy and Marc Russel, which highlights the combat actions in eastern Ukraine and the consequences of war for the civilian population.
“This event will serve as a reminder of the obligation of artists to tell the story of this war ‘in the heart of Europe,’ which has been affecting the Ukrainian people and the world for three years now.”
New Films and World Premiere
In particular, the festival will feature the world premiere of the Ukrainian documentary film “Militantropos.” The film will be presented in the parallel program “Directors’ Fortnight” by the authors who filmed it from February to April 2025. The film portrays both the combat actions in the Pokrovsk and Sumy directions and the everyday lives of civilians during terrorist shelling before possible negotiations. Director Bernard-Henri Lévy filmed in a bunker with soldiers, where they watched the conversation between Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump.
