Trump denied any connection between his departure from the G7 summit and the proposal for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump categorically denied claims that his early departure from the “Group of Seven” summit was related to proposals for a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Such comments arose after French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the American leader allegedly initiated negotiations for a truce.

“Macron, who seeks publicity, mistakenly said that I left the G7 summit in Canada to return to Washington and work on a ‘ceasefire’ between Israel and Iran. Incorrect! He has no idea why I am heading to Washington now, but it certainly has nothing to do with a ceasefire. Much more. Deliberately or not, Emmanuel is always wrong,” he wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.

Statements from leaders and the development of the diplomatic situation

The French president refrained from commenting on Trump’s words, but earlier on Monday explained to reporters that the U.S. president had proposed a ceasefire to Israel and Iran. According to Macron, the goal of such a move is to open the way for broader negotiations between the parties to the conflict.

Donald Trump left the G7 summit in Canada early to return to Washington amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Currently, there are ongoing exchanges of fire between Israel and Iran, which began on June 13 following Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets. This has heightened tensions in a region that has been in crisis since October 2023 due to events in Israel and the Gaza Strip.

Casualties of the confrontation and positions of the parties

During the first unexpected airstrike by Israel on June 3, high-ranking commanders and scientists were eliminated. According to Iran’s Ministry of Health, the total number of fatalities stands at 224, with over 90% of the victims being civilians, as reported by the ministry’s spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour. For its part, the Israeli side reported 23 fatalities as a result of Iranian attacks.

Israel, the U.S., and their Western partners have long pressured Iran to curb the development of its nuclear program. Tehran, for its part, denies any intention to create nuclear weapons and emphasizes the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear research, including uranium enrichment.
