Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in London on March 17, which he described as the first-ever bilateral meeting in a “strategic dialogue format” between the two countries. The parties signed a Declaration on the expansion of cooperation in the field of security and defense industry, which both leaders believe is a significant step towards strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

New Agreements on Defense Production and Air Defense
During the negotiations, Zelensky informed the British Prime Minister about the current situation on the front line, particularly regarding Russian attacks and Ukraine’s key defense needs. Special attention was given to the development of joint defense production, enhancing Ukraine’s air defense with additional missiles, and security issues in the context of the situation in the Middle East.
“Today we signed a Declaration on deepening cooperation in the field of security and defense industry. This is an important step towards strengthening our defense,” Zelensky stated.
The UK Supports Ukraine and Responds to Global Challenges
Keir Starmer emphasized that the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East highlighted the need for rapid military innovations that are critical for the national and economic security of the United Kingdom. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a new defense partnership that not only enhances Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian aggression but also ensures the readiness of the UK and its allies to respond to potential threats in the future.
During his address to the British Parliament, Zelensky announced the deployment of 201 drone countermeasures experts from Ukraine to the Middle East, with an additional 34 specialists on standby for deployment.
As part of his working visit to London on March 17, President Zelensky also had an audience with King Charles III.
