Ukraine Condemns Iranian Drone Strike on Azerbaijan and Calls for International Response

«Режим у Тегерані є глобальною загрозою» – Сибіга про удар іранських дронів в Азербайджані

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha issued a statement categorically condemning the recent Iranian strike on Azerbaijani territory. According to him, the incident is yet another example of the destructive policies of the Tehran regime, which have already led to attacks on countries in the Middle East and Europe.

Ukraine’s Position on Iranian Aggression

Sybiha stated that Iranian terrorists had no justification for harming Azerbaijan or Ukraine, particularly by supplying combat drones to the Russian Federation and other countries, where these drones have already caused chaos, loss of life, and increased instability. The minister emphasized that the attack on Azerbaijan once again proves that the regime in Tehran poses a global, not just a regional threat, affecting not only Iran but also its allies, including the Russian Federation.

“Iranian terrorists have never had any reason to harm Azerbaijan, Ukraine, by supplying their drones to Russia, or to other countries where they have caused chaos, killings, and destabilization. Iran’s attack on Azerbaijan once again demonstrates that the regime in Tehran is a global threat, not a regional one. This concerns not only Iran but also its terrorist allies, including Russia.”

Sybiha called for the unification of international efforts to neutralize the threats posed by the Iranian regime. He stressed the importance of ensuring opportunities for peaceful living for the Iranian people and restoring security and stability not only in the Middle East but also beyond its borders.

Azerbaijan’s Reaction and Official Statements

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev strongly condemned the attack by Iranian drones on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, emphasizing that this attack is an act of terror against the Azerbaijani state. He stated that Iran must provide official explanations, apologize to the Azerbaijani side, and those responsible must face criminal liability.

According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, drones launched from neighboring Iran struck the Nakhchivan Autonomous Region, resulting in injuries to two people. One of the drones hit the airport in Nakhchivan, damaging infrastructure, while another landed near a school building in the Shekerabad area.

The Azerbaijani side summoned the Iranian ambassador Mojtaba Dermichilou to deliver an official note of protest, emphasizing that it reserves the right to respond.

In turn, representatives of the Iranian Foreign Ministry rejected accusations of involvement in the drone incident. Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Garibabadi stated that Iran does not attack neighboring states, and the targets can only be those countries that allow the placement of military bases of Iran’s adversaries on their territory.

It is worth noting that Azerbaijan has long been one of the main oil suppliers to Israel, while Israel serves as a key defense partner for Baku. Despite close military-technical cooperation, Azerbaijani officials have repeatedly emphasized that they will not allow their territory or airspace to be used for military operations against Iran or any other country.
