Largest Sanctions Package Against the Russian Fleet

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a significant portion of the Russian fleet involved in transporting oil and other energy resources has been sanctioned. These resources provide financial support for the war against Ukraine. The restrictions apply not only to vessels flying the Russian flag but also to those operating under the flags of over 50 other jurisdictions.

“Today, Ukraine’s sanctions against nearly 700 maritime vessels used by the Russians to finance the war have come into effect. This is a significant part of the Russian fleet that transports oil and other energy resources, funding the prolongation of the war. This is the largest sanctions package specifically against tankers and other vessels serving aggression. The package includes vessels that sail not only under the Russian flag but also under the flags of other states – in particular, this involves over 50 jurisdictions,” Zelensky stated on social media.

International Blockade of Vessels

The president emphasized that Ukraine will continue to work to ensure that all these vessels, shipping companies, and the infrastructure for exporting energy resources from the Russian Federation are blocked not only by Ukrainian sanctions but also by international sanctions from partner countries.

The decree implementing the decision of the National Security and Defense Council includes a list of 656 vessels subject to the new restrictions.
