Sanctions Against Russia: International Cooperation and Consequences

Zelensky emphasized that the sanctions imposed against Russia during the period of full-scale aggression have become a “global form of interaction that restores the real power of justice.” The President noted that the impact of the sanctions is already being felt in the Russian Federation.

“We appreciate that Ukrainian proposals regarding sanctions are taken into account by partners when they prepare their packages. And we definitely incorporate our partners’ sanctions for implementation within Ukrainian jurisdiction,” he stated.

The head of state informed that synchronization of sanctions with Japan has now taken place. Zelensky signed the corresponding decree, which provides for restrictions against leaders and companies involved in financing the Russian war machine, supplying weapons, key components, and equipment.

Ukraine’s Sanctions Policy: Key Achievements and Prospects

Since June 2025, Ukraine has already adopted eight sanctions packages, each coordinated with key allies – the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, and the European Union. The restrictive lists include 281 individuals and 633 legal entities that play a significant role in supporting the aggression of the Russian Federation.

Moreover, Zelensky expressed hope that the EU will soon approve the 19th sanctions package. The President’s Office has already published a new decree on the application of sanctions against seven Russian citizens and one citizen of North Korea. Additionally, 14 companies registered in Russia, China, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and the Seychelles have also been subjected to restrictions.

As previously reported, the issue of approving the 19th sanctions package by the EU against Russia is planned to be discussed at the summit on October 23, with Slovakia insisting on its detailed discussion at the highest level. The European Commission has already presented this package, which includes, among other things, a complete refusal of the European Union to import Russian gas starting January 1, 2027, as well as the imposition of sanctions on 118 vessels of the Russian “shadow fleet.”
