Defense Support and Energy Security
Zelensky highlighted that Ukraine is accumulating the necessary equipment, which is already being used in communities and reserved for the winter months. The president specifically addressed the importance of receiving financial assistance and enhancing air defense. He stressed that only a sufficient number of air defense systems can guarantee protection, and Ukraine is working to secure missiles for these systems.
“We are working in detail with our partners to ensure there is enough support. There will be negotiations in the coming days. This concerns the equipment we are accumulating in reserve for winter, as well as what we are currently using in communities. Also, about the necessary finances. Of course, air defense as well. Only air defense systems, when they are sufficient, guarantee protection. We are working to ensure there are missiles for the systems,” he stated.
International Context and the Role of Partners
The president also commented on the situation in the Middle East, mentioning the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. He expressed confidence that Russia is trying to take advantage of the global leaders’ focus on efforts to end the war in the Middle East. Zelensky noted that the Russian Federation is the sole source of the full-scale war currently ongoing in Europe.
The head of state emphasized that he is counting on continued support and pressure from the United States and other partners. He reported receiving signals from the U.S. regarding the possibility of strengthening cooperation with Ukraine in defense and energy sectors. Additionally, Zelensky held talks with the Prime Minister of Canada regarding the provision of Ukrainian air defense and additional energy support.
The president noted the effectiveness of the PURL program, which allows Ukraine to purchase American weapons, including missiles for the Patriot systems. He thanked NATO countries that have already joined this initiative and expressed hope for an expanded participation of Canada in the program.
Following the negotiations, Zelensky gave necessary instructions to the Armed Forces, the Office of the President, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing the importance of achieving concrete results.
Furthermore, the president reminded about his recent conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, during which the latest attacks by Russia on Ukrainian energy and the issue of supporting Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor were discussed.
