Trilateral Meeting Format and Key Topics

Zelensky received a report from the Ukrainian delegation regarding the negotiations that took place on January 23-24 in Abu Dhabi with representatives from the USA and Russia. According to him, this was the first meeting in such a format in a long time. During the negotiations, the parties discussed a wide range of important issues, including military aspects crucial for ending the war, as well as several complex political questions that remain unresolved.

“The meetings addressed a range of significant issues, primarily military ones, necessary for ending the war. We also talked about the complex political questions that are still unresolved,” he said.

Prospects for New Diplomatic Negotiations

The President of Ukraine reported that the meeting included an analysis of the key positions of all parties and established a framework for further diplomatic steps. Zelensky emphasized the preparation for the upcoming trilateral meetings, which are set to take place this week. According to U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Washington also confirmed its intention to participate in the new negotiations, although the exact date has not yet been officially announced.

At the same time, Russian officials in their comments refer to “agreements” that they claim were reached between Russia and the USA during the U.S.-Russia summit in Anchorage, Alaska, in August 2025. However, no specific agreements have been officially reported following that meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
