Updated Peace Plan: What We Know

According to media reports, in Abu Dhabi, U.S. Special Representative Dan Driscoll is discussing a new version of the peace plan, initiated by Donald Trump, with representatives of the Russian side. This version is the result of consultations between the USA, Ukraine, and European countries that took place in Geneva.

The new plan contains 19 points instead of the initial 28. Provisions regarding the limitation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the renunciation of amnesty for war crimes have been removed from the final text. Territorial issues are expected to become the subject of a personal meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and former U.S. President Donald Trump in the coming days.

Positions of the Parties and Progress of the Negotiations

It is known that initially, negotiations in Abu Dhabi were planned between the Ukrainian and Russian intelligence services regarding other issues; however, the unexpected arrival of U.S. Special Envoy Dan Driscoll changed the course of events. Driscoll’s press service noted progress in negotiations between the American and Russian delegations and emphasized optimism from the USA regarding the further development of dialogue.

Driscoll’s press service reported that negotiations between the Americans and Russians “are going well” and that the USA “remains optimistic.”

From the Russian Federation, President Vladimir Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that in Moscow, the initial Trump plan is viewed as “a very good basis for negotiations,” acknowledging that the document will undergo changes during consultations with the USA and Ukraine.
