Threats and Diplomatic Conflicts Between Ukraine and Hungary

The representative of the Foreign Ministry emphasized that the Hungarian authorities should “put an end to the senseless anti-Ukrainian hysteria,” which, according to him, has been occurring recently. Earlier on Saturday, the Hungarian government reported the detention of a Ukrainian citizen by security services, who was subsequently allegedly deported and banned from entering the country supposedly due to “espionage activities.”

Additionally, the day before, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Péter Szijjártó, announced the expulsion of two Ukrainian diplomats from Budapest, accusing them of “espionage.” In response, Kyiv reported a similar expulsion of two Hungarian diplomats.

“The Security Service of Ukraine has, for the first time in the country’s history, uncovered an agent network of Hungary’s military intelligence that was conducting espionage activities to the detriment of Ukraine”

For his part, the Hungarian Foreign Minister noted that their authorities have not yet received official information from Ukraine regarding the detention of two individuals in Transcarpathia, who are suspected of working for Hungarian intelligence.
